About 70 people from a wide range of sectors including business, the Southland Youth Futures (SYF) regional taskforce, training providers, careers advisers, industry organisations, local councils and government agencies attended the Invest in Youth Celebration held at the Kelvin Hotel last week.

The event co-hosted by SYF and the Southland Chamber of Commerce was organised to acknowledge the 16 SYF employer excellence partners, 10 business supporters and employers who offer Gateway work experience placements through secondary schools.

SYF co-ordinator Allison Beckham said: “It was pleasing to be able to acknowledge the Southland employers who are committed to doing something for young people, and heartening to hear the positive comments about the contribution Southland Youth Futures is making to help young people negotiate that often scary leap from school to training or work.”

SYF is a programme led by Venture Southland which aims to connect young people with primary industries in the region.
