A year since construction began, The Waikiwi Tavern and the new restaurant, The Foundry, will open tomorrow (November 17) on the corner or North Road and Gimblett St, Invercargill.
The modern fully-equipped tavern, includes a bottle store and gaming area. A mezzanine floor has been designed to capture the sun and a garden bar with a louvred roof to protect from the elements when needed.
Trust sales and marketing manager Chris Ramsay said the development was a fantastic asset for Invercargill.
“We’re really excited for the Waikiwi community and believe they will embrace this just as other areas have,” Ramsay said.
“From a building perspective, it’s a step outside our traditional restaurant theme,” Ramsay said.
Industrial theming and an exposed kitchen were among many stylish characteristics of the 100-seat restaurant, along with the ability to introduce alfresco dining.
Chef Greg Jenks from the renowned Hilton in Queenstown, has been recruited as head chef to add his culinary flair to The Foundry.
The Foundry will be open Monday to Thursday from 4pm and Friday to Sunday from 9am, while the bar will be open daily from 10am.
