Invercargill-based fibreglass, flooring and resin infusion specialists FI Innovations was named Supreme Winner at the Southland Business Excellence Awards on Friday.
The awards evening was held at the Ascot Park Hotel, with the Southland Chamber of Commerce hosting more than 400 business people at the awards dinner.
Southland Chamber of Commerce chief executive Sheree Carey said there were more than double the number of entrants this year compared with 2015 [the awards are held biennially].
“The high calibre of entries made judging particularly difficult, with only a few points between finalists in many categories,” she said.
Winners were announced in 10 categories with the supreme winner chosen from these finalists.
FI Innovations scooped the Supreme Award along with the Innovation Award, and were also finalists in the Primary and Primary Services Sector Award and the Consumer Sector Award.
FI Innovations were renowned for providing high quality and innovative solutions, and since starting out in 2002 manufacturing fibreglass marine components with one client and one employee, the company now had clients throughout the country, a diversified range of products and services, and 20 employees, she said.
FI Innovations directors Gareth and Melissa Dykes said they were always looking for innovative solutions to assist customers with frustrations or problems.
“It removes the mundane day-to-day processes as we’re always doing or undertaking something different and exciting,” Mr Dykes said.
Mr and Mrs Dykes said they felt entering the awards had been a great opportunity to showcase what FI Innovations could offer, to celebrate the growth and direction of the business, and to recognise the hard work and dedication of their team.
