Big Construction Tour

The Big Construction Tour, run by Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) Invercargill, took four van-loads of pupils to businesses where they were introduced to various aspects of careers within the construction industry last week.

A total of 37 pupils from Gore High School and St Peter’s College in Gore; Menzies College in Wyndham; and James Hargest College, Southland Boys’ High School, Southland Girls’ High School and Verdon College in Invercargill took part.

The pupils also had a go at painting and decorating at H G Morsink Painting Contractors on Bond St and carpet laying at Invercargill Flooring Xtra on Tay St.

Southland Girls’ High School Year 13 pupil Anisha Gillan, of Bluff, who was picked by her school to join Invercargill’s Big Construction Tour last week, said she had been interested in a trades career for about two years.
