Alfred Angelo, an American wedding dress chain, filed for bankruptcy last month, leaving brides around the world without their dream wedding dress.

Brides by Donna Rae owner/operator Donna Rae Dawson said two of her clients had been affected by the chain’s closure, both of whom she had helped find a solution.

As Alfred Angelo was one of nine designers she stocked, the closure would not affect her business.

“I was phasing out [Alfred Angelo] anyway. The designs didn’t fit with my business model.”

Invercargill bride-to-be Sarah Hunter was one of the brides affected by the closure. Miss Hunter said the dress she had chosen was available in store in the wrong size, but Mrs Dawson had offered to have it altered to fit at no charge. She was happy with this solution as it meant she did not have to start the “dress trying-on process” all over again.

“It was hard enough trying to find one dress let alone trying to find another one.”
