EVER dreamt of getting behind the wheel of a supercar?
Well, now’s your chance, with a new Invercargill-based business, Club GT, offering customers the opportunity to drive an Aston Martin Vantage V8.
Club GT owner/operator and supercar enthusiast Scott Thompson purchased the car in Auckland specifically to start his new business.
“I considered other luxury cars like the Porsche, but decided on the Aston Martin, which was one of the dream cars on my list,” he said.
“The Aston has more bang for buck and [will provide] an exotic experience for drivers.”
If people enjoyed the concept, Mr Thompson said he hoped to extend his fleet over time.
The concept offers clients the opportunity to drive the supercar on well-sealed public roads in Invercargill and Southland in 30-minute, one-hour and custom packages. A 30-minute package costs $110, which includes fuel, GST and insurance.
Drivers need to be 25 years of age or older with a full New Zealand driver’s licence or a valid overseas licence.
Mr Thompson would accompany the client for insurance purposes and to answer questions.
Mr Thompson said he knew of a similar concept overseas, which mainly catered for “high-end customers”, but the aim of Club GT was to have a more attainable price point, making the experience more accessible and affordable for everyone.
The business also fitted in well with the motoring theme developing in Invercargill, with wheels-based attractions such as Bill Richardson Transport World and Classic Motorcycle Mecca, he said.
Mr Thompson, originally from Kaitangata in South Otago, moved to Invercargill with his partner Olivia eight years ago and now works as a design engineer.
