INVERCARGILL’S Riverside Speedway at Sandy Point, Otatara, has a new naming rights sponsor.

For the first time in 15 seasons, the Southland Stock Car Drivers Association will be rebranded X Factor Cars Riverside Speedway.

In what was described as a bold and innovative decision, the members voted unanimously at a general meeting in late July to accept a two-year proposal put forward by X Factor Cars, a locally owned vehicle dealership owned and managed by the Williamson family, who are also passionate motorsport enthusiasts and competitors.

Business co-owner Graham Williamson said the partnership was viewed as a perfect fit for X Factor Cars, Riverside Speedway and speedway fans in general.

The club has scheduled a huge season starting on October 20.

“We can’t wait for the lights to go green out at Sandy Point Rd come October. We’re thrilled to be a part of it, not for just this season, but many more ahead,” Mr Williamson said.

“Without giving too much away, we have a marketing, advertising strategy and plan that will launch the club and speedway forward in a dynamic positive fashion.

“The resources, expertise and contacts we have at our disposal will translate seamlessly into the promotional arm of X Factor Cars Riverside Speedway.

“Speedway is based around family, not just from a spectator and fan prospective, but also from a competitor’s standpoint with mums, dads, sons and daughters all either racing or helping out around the club and in the pits.

“That’s what we’re about as a company and that’s the culture we will help facilitate and encourage as a sponsorship partner,” he said.

Club president Tiffany Dryden said the club and its members were very comfortable with the decision to welcome X Factor Cars on board as a naming rights sponsor.

“X Factor Cars have made a two-year commitment to the club and have requested the option to extend their naming rights after such time. We look forward to the team helping to promote our club during this period.”

Ms Dryden thanked the Rock 90.8FM and Media Works Southland on behalf of the club and its many members for its commitment as a naming partner and sponsor during the past 15 years.

X Factor Cars Riverside Speedway has begun planning for another high octane season of speedway racing.

The Southland and visiting public can look forward to another ILT Foundation Fireworks Extravaganza, Demolition Ramp Derby, Burn-out Competition, the returning South Island Super Saloon Series, Hydraulink War of the Wings Sprint Car Series, Holden Trade Club Saloon Speed Week and the highly anticipated New Zealand Sprint Car Grand Prix, South Island saloon, super saloon and production saloon championships.
