THE grand opening of the CBD Art Trail was held last Saturday, which also marked the first day of the CBD Art Trail Scavenger Hunt.
The event celebrated the murals on the hoarding panels around the Invercargill city centre and began with a you’ morning tea for the artists, families, community groups, organisations, businesses and schools who painted a panel.
Invercargill Central Ltd communication manager Amy Hibbs said there was a competition for schools which took part in the hoarding panel murals and the Neighbouring Retail Group awarded the prizes.
“At 11am, we left the Information Hub and some members of the ILT City of Invercargill Highland Pipe Band and the town cryer, Lynley McKerrow, led us around the block where artists dropped off along the way at their mural.”
From 11am-1pm the public was encouraged to walk the Art Trail and meet some of the artists.
The Scavenger Hunt was a school holiday activity to bring families into the CBD to see murals and would run to October 11.
