SOUTHLAND Girls’ High School choir Femme is heading to Auckland to perform at the Big Sing national finale from August 24 to 26.
The school’s head of performing arts and musical director Sarah Rae said the girls were very excited about performing at the event.
“It will be a really good learning curve for us as much as the chance to show our style, which I’d like to think is unique for us.”
Ms Rae said the competition was extremely important for the school.
“It is great to have the platform to show what we are achieving. It makes us feel that what we are doing is significant.”
There were 19 girls from Years 9 to 13 in the Femme choir, which was named regional winner in June.
“We were chosen as one of 24 choirs from more than 270 choirs from throughout New Zealand. We are one of six South Island representatives,” Ms Rae said.
“I want the girls to show what they are capable of and that they deserve to be there. I want them to come off stage knowing they gave everything and that they presented the best musical product at that moment. We hope to make the region really proud.”
