Dan Davin Short Story Writing Awards were held at the Civic Theatre last Friday.

This year’s winners were Mouse Diver-Dudfield (adult section winner and runner-up), Maddy Doherty (junior section winner), Autumn Marshall (senior section winner) Kristina Grumball (senior section runner-up) and Jamie Rule (junior section runner-up).

The awards kicked off a literary weekend in the south, with the inaugural Dan Davin Short Story Conference being held on Saturday and Sunday.

Hosted by the Dan Davin Literary Foundation, the conference included presentations by authors and academics from throughout the country, a panel discussion with Owen Marshall, Fiona Kidman, Slaughter and Janet Wilson chaired by Paula Morris, and a visit to Bluff’s Te Rau Aroha Marae.
