Exhibition shows new beginnings

EXPLOSIONS of colour tell the story of artist Lyn Henry’s latest exhibition, Primavera! New Beginnings.

Henry said the collection of more than 40 pastel artworks was a new direction for her, hence the name of the show.

“The paintings are so happy, so colourful, so whimsical… they have an explosion of colour and are happy,” she said.

This is Henry’s second solo exhibition. The first, Ties That Bind, was in Riverton about three years ago.

“For this exhibition, I have gone away from being meticulous and a perfectionist… these artworks are more about feelings, rather than actual subjects.”

All the works are in pastel.

“From abstract and ‘floralish’ to still life… they range from very large to very small.”

Her next project is Theme of Memory, focusing on “the war years”, which was very personal for Henry as members of her family had served during World War 2.

Asked what motivates her to paint, Henry simply says: “I paint because I have to.”
