THE colouring-in craze has taken over the South Alive Community Artspace.
Artists Esther Libeau and Anna Obers have covered the walls of the gallery with copious amounts of sketches, of almost anything imaginable, for the Colour Your World paint the walls art project.
Now it was up to members of the public to come along and colour them in, they said.
Paint and brushes have been supplied, thanks to the artists.
The fun, family-friendly living artwork is open to all ages and already there has been a constant stream of people popping in, taking up a paint brush and enjoying the experience.
“We have even had a baby have a go at painting… and all ages, including elderly folk who have also had a few good yarns while painting.
“We have had some really good conversations,” Libeau said.
Libeau, who is a member of the South Alive Arts Group, said the interactive community art project was raised at a recent meeting.
The idea for a community project was brought up and the colouring-in book theme was suggested, she said.
As the sketches on the wall are being coloured in, a sea scene will be sketched on the front windows soon, including mermaids, Vikings, pirates and kracken (giant monster octopus).
To add even more sketches, some cardboard furniture will also be made.
“We would also like a cardboard gingerbread house to draw on.”
The project will run until Friday, May 26, when it will be photographed and the walls and windows returned to their original state. The gallery is open Monday to Friday, 11am-4.30pm. A gold coin donation to support the gallery would be appreciated, the artists said.
