BASED on the Disney Channel’s original movie, this year’s popular Disney High School Musical On Stage will be held at Central Southland College’s hall in Winton from Monday, July 2, to Wednesday, July 4.
Musical director Chloe Waru said as well as being a musical production which was “more modern and related to teenagers”, it was also chosen to include a large group of pupils.
“It was something we watched as kids as well… and it is a good opportunity to bring back memories of being at high school.”
It was also a production which many of the pupils could relate to, she said.
Her love of productions was infectious.
Productions gave the pupils a chance to show the performance side of their talents, aside from the academic subjects, she said.
Waru said she had been involved in the performing arts in Auckland for several years before shifting to Winton.
“I went to high school because I loved the productions.”
Director Sarah Faithfull said there would be an extensive cast and backstage crew with about 60 pupils performing and up to 20 helping out with lighting, make-up, set, sound and backstage.
“We have a lot of talented kids… with our most talented dancers and singers committed and working hard for this production.”
Tickets are adult $15, high school pupil $10, child/primary school pupil $7 and can be bought from the college office.bridgemediaZwift Is Betting It Can Do for Running What It Did for Cycling
