WHEN Invercargill Rock‘n’Roll Club president Karl Herman talks about the juniors who won a stash of trophies and medals at the New Zealand junior championships at Easter, he can not wipe the smile from his face.
And he has good reason.
The club cleaned up at the event, even taking out the top honours in the senior section grabbing all four placings — with Joshua McNaughton and Ellexa Robins taking the top title.
In all, there were 10 first placings — three of them in major sections.

About 36 youngsters from the Invercargill club along with 34 supporters went to the event which was held in Porirua, Herman said.
Ellexa and Joshua have been dancing together for 11 years, since they were 4 and 5 years old. They are coached by Ellexa’s mother, Rochelle Robins.
For Ellexa it was the goal to take out the top title.
“That’s what we were going for,” she said.
“It was still a shock to win it.”
For Herman, all members who went to the nationals represented the club well.
“Our aim is for them to reach the finals and we hope when they get there, their hard work pays off.
“What I really enjoyed was seeing the kids out on the floor having fun they wanted to be there and they were all having good old-fashioned fun.”
The club now had about 200 members and was looking forward to hosting the Rocking with the Stars event in September.
“We hope to have a really special one this year,” Herman said.
“It’s our 10th anniversary.”
