Korowai o Maata

Southland Museum & Art Gallery visitor host Malia Parkhill (left) and retail manager Heather Moore with a Maori kakahu (cloak), which is being exhibited at the museum as part of Korowai o Maata. The exhibition features woven whanau korowai created by students who attended a wananga at Bluff’s Te Rau Aroha Marae, led by Maata McManus (Waikato Tainui). McManus is renowned for her skill in weaving korowai, the prestigious feathered cloak worn at significant occasions, and is committed to ensuring that her knowledge is passed on.

The exhibition is on until Sunday, June 18.
