THE introduction of printmaking and painting studios at the East Gore Art Centre is hoped to make it a centre of regional and national significance.

But in order for the vision to be complete, some fundraising needed to take place.

On Friday, September 11, the Eastern Southland Gallery would host a fundraising party and auction evening to raise money.

Gallery programmes officer Marcella Geddes said the evening was shaping up to be a great night, with a special guest speaker and an auction of art, wine and exclusive packages.

Among the items on offer was a stunning lithograph by Auckland artist Robert Ellis, Two Paddocks wine and a variety of special packages, including a flight in a Tiger Moth and a weekend in Queenstown.

“Our guest auctioneer for the evening is local funny man and star of the stage, Brendan Terry,” she said.

All proceeds from this event would go towards the East Gore Art Centre and the completion of the printmaking and painting studios.

“This an exciting development for Southland and one which we hope will become an art centre of regional and national significance.

“This should be an entertaining night and lots of fun. There is a wonderful variety of art up for auction with something to suit all tastes.”

Tickets were limited and refreshments and finger food were included in the ticket price of $45.

Tickets were available from the Gore Visitor Centre or by emailing the Gallery on artgallery@goredc.govt.nz or phoning Marcella Geddes on 027 682 7136.

Plans were also in place for an alternative online event should the need arise, she said.
