Zonta Club celebrates Women’s Day

Dr Danielle Jones will be the guest speaker at the Zonta Club of Invercargill’s International Women’s Day Celebration this weekend.

THE Zonta Club of Invercargill will host its third International Women’s Day Celebration at the Ascot Park Hotel this weekend.

Still a young club, this will also be the third annual celebration hosted by the Invercargill Zonta Club.

Dr Danielle Jones, best known on social media platforms for her influential videos on health topics as Mama Doctor Jones, will be the guest speaker at the event.

Zonta Invercargill president Sandra Prebble said the aim of the event was to celebrate women, their successes and their goals.

This would also be the first year the club was presenting the event online, which Mrs Prebble said was giving them the opportunity to reach women everywhere.

“Being at the bottom of the South Island can be a bit limiting, in that there’s only one direction, and that’s north.”

Mrs Prebble said the club wished to push for diversity among their members, and the club was really passionate about encouraging opportunity for women from all walks of life.

Founded in the United States in 1919, Zonta International has 30,000 members throughout 1200 Zonta clubs in 67 countries.

The Zonta International websites states their vision as, “A world in which women’s rights are recognised as human rights and every women is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision making positions on equal basis with men.”

The fundraiser will start at 2pm on Sunday. Tickets are $45 (limited to 100 people) or online tickets are $10.
