Give it a whirl

Whirligigs competition organiser Doetie Keizer holds examples of whirligigs.

CREATIVE types have until Sunday to enter their completed whirligigs in the Riverton-themed Whirligigs Competition.

Whirligigs are wind-powered toys with moving parts which spin in the wind, such as a windmill.

Hosted by the Riverton Beautification Project, there are two age groups, under 16 years and 16 and over, with $500 of prizes including shopping and meal vouchers, a blender, grocery hamper and gift vouchers.

Once built, the colourful whirligigs will be displayed in planter boxes along Riverton’s main street.

Completed whirligigs can be handed in at the Riverton Arts Centre, Palmerston St, before Sunday. Judging will take place next month and the whirligigs will also feature during the In Between the Tides summer event.
