ANTICIPATION is building as tenants are confirmed and final touches are made to Invercargill’s new Kmart complex ahead of its opening next month.
“We can confirm the Kmart Invercargill fit-out is almost complete, with stock due to arrive at the store this week in readiness for a grand opening in late November,” a Kmart spokesperson said.
Auckland development company Windermere Holdings was developing the complex for Kmart, with Calder Stewart Construction building the complex.
The complex included eight other tenants and 147 undercover car parks.
Seven of the eight tenants had been confirmed – Muffin Break, St Pierre’s Sushi, K Chicken, Shake Shed & Co, Ten Ten Thai street food, Stirling Sports and M M Barber Express, as well as an ANZ automated teller machine.
The Kmart shopping mall complex is at 15 Clyde St, on a 5300sqm section bordered by Forth, Liddel and Wood Sts.
Calder Stewart Construction Southland manager Lindsay Bowmar said 75 tradesmen were on site this week completing the main build and various fit-out work.
“It has been an exciting project to be associated with for the city.
“It is going to be here for a long time,” he said.
“Calder Stewart is proud of what we have been able to provide for our client. It has been a full design build package.”
The project was officially announced in July last year.
Kmart in Invercargill was expected to provide employment for about 100 staff.
