This week’s House of the Week – 57 Louisa St, Gladstone

SHARE

ALTHOUGH this well established family home has had a complete makeover, it still retains many of its original features.

On a quiet street in Gladstone, this home is close to primary and high schools, and only a five minute drive to the CBD. It has been refreshed from ceiling to floor, with all its walls and ceilings painted and new carpet and lino laid throughout.

Built in the 1940s, this large, brick and roughcast home offers plenty of living options, including the choice of whether to use the spacious north-facing room at the front of the home as a lounge, or at the back, near the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.

Still retaining many of its original features, such as the picture railings around the wall to hang art from, a mantle and surround around the open fireplace and a decorative plaster ceiling, the front room has been modernised with bi-fold doors which open to the deck and formal front garden.

Once the decision of which room to use for the lounge has been decided, then the choice of which rooms to use for bedrooms will be next. The front bedroom, with character built-in wardrobe, also has a sunroom. The other bedrooms are also large, and also have built-in wardrobes, decorated plaster ceilings and leadlight windows.

Another room at the back of the home, which can be entered either from the double garage or the outside, also offers the choice of being used as a studio, as it previously was, or as another bedroom.

The kitchen has been fully modernised, including a new range/cook top, a large sink, a wide breakfast bar, and tin splash back, which also runs the length of the bench, tying the traditional in with the modern aspects of the home.

Heating is by two heat pumps, a nightstore and a recently installed wood burner with a wetback.

The two bathrooms have also been upgraded with modern amenities.

The garage, which has large windows at the back making it a great place to work on various projects, also has a new, long laundry bench and sink installed.

As well as the private garden in the front, and a comfortable back yard, low hedging frames the length of the driveway and the property is fenced, making it very tidy and family friendly.
