THE Rock Riverside Speedway club members have prayed to the weather gods for sunshine after the much-anticipated two-day super saloon event, which included the ILT Fireworks extravaganza, was washed out two weekends ago.

As a result, the fireworks extravaganza has been rescheduled to Saturday night as part of the club’s memorial meeting which will honour three former club members who have died – Cecile Kergozou, Brett Cooper and Rod McLaren.

Last year’s winners, Mark Henderson (Cecile Kergozou streetstocks), Graham Williamson (Rod McLaren saloons) and Dean Miller (Brett Cooper modified sprints), will all be eager to keep the silverware they battled for last season.

Daryl Scott will be a front runner in the Brett Cooper Memorial.

These three drivers acknowledged winning their respective grades’ memorial trophies was a massive honour, and because the families of those club members will be presenting the trophies as they held a lot of sentimental value to a significant number of people.

This meeting was always popular and was also a chance for the club to reflect on those who had made an impact in some way, shape and form to the club, giving club members what they enjoy today.

The event will be capped off by the rescheduled fireworks extravaganza, the biggest seen in Southland.

Racing will get under way at 4pm, with full fields of support grades on hand to entertain.

Please note, this event is strictly no alcohol.
