KartSport Southland club members Alex Crosbie (10, left) and Jacob Earley (9), both of Invercargill, will represent Southland at the South Island go-kart sprint championships in Nelson this weekend.
Club member Glenn Earley said Jacob would compete in the Cadet ROK class (karts with 60cc engines, ages 6-10 years) and Alex in the Mini ROK class (karts with 60cc engines, ages 11-12 years).
Three other club members will also compete. Logan Thompson (15) will race in the 125cc Rotax MAX junior class, Kyle Dawson in the 125cc Rotax MAX light class and George Keast in the 125cc Rotax MAX heavy class.
Mr Earley said cadet-class karts could reach speeds of 85kmh, while senior-class karts reached about 110kmh.
The championships will be held over two days.
