SOUTHLAND speedsters Euan Shearing, Dean Shearing and Jeff Richardson will fly the flag for Southland this speedway season with the trio being selected for the Holden Trade Club Saloon Speedweek presented by MTF Finance Invercargill.
Speedweek is an event organised by Steve Williams, former caddy for golfer Tiger Woods.
Williams hand-picks the drivers for the series, which he will also feature in.
The event usually runs in the North Island, but will make the move south this year with a round at X Factor Cars Riverside Speedway on Wednesday, December 5.
The series starts in Christchurch on November 30 with a double header, before trekking to Greymouth, Invercargill, Dunedin and Cromwell all in the space of a week.
The event is made up of 24 of New Zealand’s top saloon drivers, eight from the North Island, with the rest from the Mainland, including the three representatives from Riverside Speedway.
Dean Shearing will want to continue the red-hot form he showed last season, including a consistent finish to the Southern Saloon Series which earned him a credible third place overall in a competitive field.
Richardson is in just his third season of saloon racing and has made an impression towards the end of the 2017-18 season. Richardson committed to racing almost every weekend of the season in the lower South Island and this series will be the pinnacle of his short career.
Euan Shearing is the entertainer, with one of the fastest cars on track and on his day is one to watch.
His driving style sees him cling to the wall and throw his car high and wide, making his car one of those you just can’t take your eyes off.
The southern trio will be calling on Southland Speedway fans to get in behind them and be trackside as they take on the country’s best at Riverside Speedway on December 5.
Meanwhile, Riverside’s annual ILT Foundation Fireworks Extravaganza last Saturday was cancelled because of the wet weather. It will now take place on Saturday, November 17.
