Nathan Botting, of the Te Anau Motorama organising committee, displays his 1953 Chevrolet 210 which will be in the American category of the upcoming augural Te Anau Motorama — 1st Annual Te Anau Car & Bike Show.

TE ANAU is gearing up to host an inaugural event for motoring enthusiasts.

The inaugural Te Anau Motorama — 1st Annual Te Anau Car& Bike Show will be held in the second week of February at the Te Anau Rugby grounds in Dusky St.

The event will begin on February 11 with ‘‘A Cruise with a View’’ the starting point being at the Fiordland Community Events Centre car park at 6.45pm.

Organising committee spokesman Nathan Botting said participants would drive around the streets of Te Anau then out to William Stephens Rd where they could choose to continue the drive to Manapouri or to return to Te Anau for refreshments.

The loop would be 23km long and it would be a good opportunity for residents to check out some of the cars prior to the show from their own driveway, he said.

‘‘We currently have over 60 cars registered for the event, with 20 of those from Te Anau Basin area but could attract up to 100 cars judging by the out-of-town interest.’’

The main event, the car show, would start on Saturday from 10am and a ceremony would be held at 2pm.

‘‘There are six categories … Best American vehicle, Best Australian vehicle, Best Motorbike, Best unique/Other vehicle, Best European vehicle and People’s Choice Award.’’

Mr Botting said participants could register during both days of the event at a cost of $20 per bike/car.

Live music, entertainment and food stalls would also be available.

Mr Botting said he was excited to be organising this new event for the region, which had attracted great sponsorship.

The event has been organised in association with Te Anau Events and vaccination passes are required.
