2005 Yamaha B Star 650cc

Vehicle: 2005 Yamaha B Star 650cc

Engine: 650cc

Colour: Blue and silver

Name: Sandra Smith

From: Invercargill

When and why did you buy it? In 2005, because I thought what was the point having a motorbike licence when I didn’t have a bike? So I went and got one

Have you altered it in any way? I haven’t altered it

What’s it like to ride? It’s not like the Harleys, it’s easier to corner with

Where’s your favourite stretch of road? I do like the Devil’s Staircase [around Lake Wakatipu]

Top speed? I have had it up there

Best driving experience? It’s got to be the South Island [circuit] trip. I got to experience all kinds of roads and weather

Worst driving experience? Coming home from the Winchester Rally [in Canterbury] one year when it was really windy and we were hanging on

Ms Smith liked her previous Yamaha motorbike (a Virago) so much she got a tattoo of the logo.

What other vehicles of note have you owned? In the six months before I had this bike, I had a Yamaha Virago. It was a cool wee bike to get back on the road again with – but it wasn’t enough

Best music to drive to? I don’t listen to music when I’m riding

Describe your driving style: All the guys say I keep up with them – I’m right up there with them

If you could go for a dream ride anywhere, which run would you do? The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the United States

What was the first vehicle you ever bought? A Yamaha 125cc when I first learnt to ride

Do you belong to any clubs? Mainland Riders, from all over the South Island

Event: We’re getting together for the Beaumont Rally [Otago] at the end of the year – this year will be the 10th yearlatest jordansNike for Men
