When and why did acquire it? Originally, it was the first car I bought when I was 18, then I sold it twice, and bought it again two more times, with the last time 12 years ago. This time it’s a keeper. The first and second times I owned it for 18 months. When I bought it back 12 years ago, it just sat as a bare shell… it was the way I had sold it the last time, as I had sold all the parts and the body was still untouched… a bare shell…

What is the vehicle’s history? It was finished last year, but If it wasn’t for Glen and Ethan who helped put it back together and finish it off, and Matt and Bruce, from Vehicle Solutions, who had it on the hoist most of the day making sure I hadn’t missed anything for the WOF check, it would still be sitting in a shed

Have you altered it in any way? Yeap, everything… it has been restored

What’s it worth? $18,000 so far

What’s it like to drive? It’s like driving a go-kart, but not a reliable go-kart. “I hate it”… one day, it will be going as good as gold, then it splutters…

Where’s your favourite stretch of road? To Kaitangata, especially in something as small as this

Top speed? So far I have had it doing 160kmh in the passing lane at Woodlands

Best driving experience? Every day it doesn’t break down

Worst driving experience? When an old man went through an intersection and wrote my car off

What other vehicles of note have you owned? Eight other Minis. I quite like my Fords. I have got one at the moment… a van

Best music to drive to? John Cougar Mellencamp

Describe your driving style: Depends what mood I’m in… generally relaxed, but depends on the situation. When I’m driving the V8, it’s a cruiser

If you could go for a drive in any vehicle it would be a…? ’71 Mustang

What was the first vehicle you ever bought? This Mini

Do you belong to any clubs? Not at all
