SOUTHERN Grilles and Gasolines are calling on all people of Invercargill to contribute a toy for this year’s Santa Cruz Christmas Toy Run.

The annual toy run sees hundreds of hot rod and classic car owners take to the streets of Invercargill collecting toys for a chosen charity.

Southern Grilles and Gasolines spokesman Jason Pope said this year’s charity was Women’s Refuge.

“The plan is for all the cars to gather in one place before parading around the wider Invercargill streets, putting on a mobile car show for the community and, although we can’t travel every street in town, we intend to make this accessible to as many as possible.”

A set route has been planned for the cars to travel around.

The Southland Express will feature the map in next week’s edition.

In the meantime, Pope asked people to buy toys, or look in their cupboards for new toys they may have, to donate.

“We hope as many people as possible will gather on the route to take in the sight and sound of this spectacle and if they so choose, toys/gifts can be handed to any of the cars on the cruise, which will then be handed over to a Women’s Refuge representative at the end of the event.”
