COUNTDOWN Waikiwi staff are holding their annual Motorbike and Car Poker Run for the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal this weekend.

Event organiser Lynley Shaw said this would be the 11th year the event had been held and she was hoping for a good turnout and some great weather.

Participants would be able to register and receive their first playing card at the Countdown Waikiwi carpark off North Rd from 10am on Saturday, and the run would start from the carpark at 11am, she said.

Participants would visit five secret locations throughout the region to collect further playing cards with which to make their best hand. Each extra playing card would cost $1 and participants could buy as many as they liked, she said.

The entry fee for the run was $10 and prizes included vouchers from Southland Honda, Southern Suzuki, E Hayes & Sons, meal vouchers and a swede in a bucket, Mrs Shaw said.

“Also, we’ll be having a cake stall and sausage sizzle at Countdown Waikiwi the same day and all money raised for the children’s hospital appeal will be distributed throughout the children’s wards around New Zealand,” she said.
