THE deadline to register for a postal vote in next month’s election and referendums has been extended to give people more time to apply.
Postal voting was available for people who could not go to a polling booth to vote in person; for example; for health or mobility reasons.
People could apply by phoning 0800 36 76 56.
Registration for postal voting was to close on Wednesday, September 23, but had been extended to Monday, September 28.
About 4400 people had registered to vote by post and would be sent their voting papers in the mail after voting started on Saturday, October 3.
Completed voting papers could be returned by post on or before Wednesday, October 14, or dropped off at any voting place before the close of voting at 7pm on election day, Saturday, October 17.
After September 28, people could still phone 800 36 76 56 if they were unable to go to a polling booth.
