Vandals destroy a commemorative glass table in Queens Park

Invercargill Host Lions Club needs the community’s support to replace a glass table gifted to Queens Park which was badly damaged by vandals in Queens Park.

Club past president Kevin Wall said the club had gifted the table to the community about six months ago to commemorate 100 years of Lions clubs worldwide. It was irreparably damaged last month.

Club members were now working to raise the $4000-$5000 needed to replace the table because their insurance policy did not cover the cost, he said.

Members of Southland MS & Parkinsons Society were helping to raise the funds needed by holding a street collection on Monday.

Manager Rachel Hucklebridge said service groups, like the Lions club, had donated a lot of money to community groups including the MS Society, over the years, so they wanted to give something back.

The society could not provide any funding, but it did have the time and manpower to help raise the funds, she said.

Those wanting to help are to meet at the MS Society offices on the corner of Jed and Gala Sts on Monday at 11am, she said.Nike Sneakers StoreGOLF NIKE SHOES
