Djembe master drummer and African dance teacher Robert Koffie Fugah holds African drumming and dancing lessons in Invercargill once a month, with the next workshop on October 13.

Organiser Jacqueline Stewart said Fugah would share his knowledge with some of the participants and they would be able to teach when Fugah wasn’t there.

“Koffie usually brings the drums with him but we are going to organise fundraising to buy drums for the group to play when he is not in Invercargill,” she said.

Workshops were held at Fernworth Primary School, 288 Pomona St, on Fridays, 6.30pm-8pm.

The cost to take part in a workshop with Fugah is $10. When he is not tutoring the workshop is free.

“There will be an optional gold coin donation. The money we collect will go to Koffie’s tribe in Ghana,” Miss Stewart said.
