Annual Knitting Festival now on

National tutor Sandy Ide, from Southland, speaks during an embellishments workshop at the New Zealand Machine Knitters Society's annual festival.

The New Zealand Machine Knitters Society’s (NZMKS) annual festival is being held at the Lindisfarne Methodist Church in Invercargill until Saturday, June 24.

Organised by the Southland Area NZMKS, the event features a display for the general public and workshops, competitions and tours around Southland for the knitters participating in the festival.

Event organiser and one of the judges Heather Smith said about 100 people from all around New Zealand were participating.

“We have eight workshop tutors here who are doing at least three workshops each. Some of the topics are felting, edging, embellishments and using of knitting machines,” Mrs Smith said.

The event is open to the public on Friday and Saturday from 10.15am to 4pm, entry $2.
