THE education room at the Southland Museum & Art Gallery has been transformed into an interactive colouring book these school holidays.
Colour Your World opened at the museum on Saturday and has had a steady stream of young Southlanders in ever since.
The activity features a large white cube and two white walls which have had the outlines of images drawn on them for children to come in and colour. Children are welcome to come in and colour in the space with the provided washable markers.
Museum operations manager Hayley Browne said the activity had been extremely popular so far.
“There’s been some beautiful colouring in happening.”
The installation was put together by design team Collective Minds, she said.
“We asked for the designs to reference our collection and Southland. They’ve entwined them beautifully.”
Some children had been carefully staying inside the lines, while others had added their own
drawings, such as the Titanic, or playing noughts and crosses in some of the spare space.
The activity is on until Sunday, July 23, and space is filling up fast.
“People seem to be loving it.”
The activity complements The Great Museum Hunt, which is also on at the museum during the holidays.
“There is a wall of the design on the hunt activity that kids can take away with them to colour in,” she said.
