There was fun and laughter in Invercargill on Saturday as Southland Multicultural Council members celebrated Colombian Independence Day.
The event, at Southern Institute of Technology’s Hansen Hall, was a celebration of Colombian culture. Many people filled the room decorated in the Colombian colours of yellow, blue and red.
Edilia Toloza and her husband Albeiro Ortiz have been in Invercargill for two years with their family. She was originally from Meta, in Colombia. Independence Day was usually marked with a big celebration with friends and family, she said.
Colombian Independence Day was usually held on July 20, and was an important date in Colombia’s history.
