RECENT upgrades to a Bluff off-leash area mean it is no dog’s breakfast.

Dozens of dogs and their owners headed to the Ocean Beach Dog Off Leash Area last Saturday to celebrate the improvements at a Dogs’ Day Out.

The Invercargill City Council (ICC) event was held to highlight the recent improvements, such as fencing and gates, to the only place in the town where dog owners could exercise their pets off-leash.

ICC animal control officer Jo Cockroft said it was a fun day.

“This gives the owners and dogs an area to free-run.”

Southern Institute of Technology vet nursing students gave free health checks for dogs, and free microchipping, and mobile eftpos was available for people to register their dogs if they had not done so already.

Southlander John Taylor (pictured) attended with his pest-detecting dogs and gave a couple of demonstrations for how they search for velvetleaf.

They also joined in and had a romp around.
