WINTER will be heating up at this year’s Fire and Light Midwinter Festival this month.
The free annual family friendly festival at the Eastside Baptist Church and grounds will provide a variety of opportunities for people of all ages to make theme-related items, enjoy the variety of entertainment on offer and take part in the grand finale lantern parade around the Glengarry shopping centre.
Festival organiser Rebecca Amundsen said the festival, which began in 2013 by the Glengarry Community Action Group to provide a fun community activity, was celebrated by about 600 people each year.
“It’s an opportunity to celebrate winter in a positive way at a special time of the year.”
As well as the popular entertainment from previous years, this year there would be more cultural diversity, she said, with plenty of opportunities for interactive fire, light and winter-related art and craft.
Into its sixth year, there would be finger-light activity led by the Makervengers group, glow products to purchase and some giveaways, as well as food stalls and trucks on site.
