PLENTY of fishing tales were told at the Te Anau Club Fishing Competition last weekend.
The competition has been around for 27 years with 23 of those held at Labour Weekend, before the Te Anau Club shifted the event to January.
Te Anau Club competition organiser Charlie Drysdale said there were 101 fish caught during the two-day competition and the condition factor of the fish was better than last year.
Dianne Anderson, of Te Anau, won the women’s section and the Te Anau Club trophy – Best Condition Factor Overall with her brown catch (condition factor 43.8910). The Bill Brown Trophy for Best Condition Factor – Brown was won by Anne Roughan, with a condition factor of 40.4379.
The men’s winner was Steven McKay (rainbow, condition factor 40.8872), junior 12-17 years was Jessica Molloy (brown, condition factor 36.2122), while Ethan Ruddenklau took out the children’s section (rainbow, condition factor 43.8872).
The competition was well supported with more than 30 sponsors, Mr Drysdale said.
Prizes included return trips to Stewart Island, Milford Sound Cruises, a Southern Lakes Scenic Trip, and fishing gear.
