Presbyterian Support Southland chief executive Peter Wards, representing Family Works, is awarded membership to the Invercargill City Council initiative, Friendly brand, by Invercargill Deputy Mayor Rebecca Amundsen on Monday in recognition of the agency’s commitment to Southland families and creating an environment they can feel safe in.

The Friendly brand award certificate indicates businesses which stand for family values.

Friendly was developed to encourage organisations to be more child, youth and family friendly.

Family Works manager Irene Te Koeti said it was pleasing the council had acknowledged Family Works as an organisation worthy of showcasing the brand.

“Everything we do within Family Works is about families, and supporting children, young people and their families through challenging times in their lives,” she said.

Friendly branding is presented to organisations which meet certain criteria including but not limited to those which welcome breast-feeding mothers, are smokefree, provide healthy food options for events and activities, and are willing to be flexible enough to accommodate the sometimes unpredictable needs of children, young people and their families.
