SOUTHLAND Multicultural Trust members invited women to come and grab a coffee, at their Women’s Chai and Chat meet and greet held at the weekend.
Organiser Patricia Pumatong said the purpose of the event was to build connections within the community.
“Most of the women attending want to meet new people and form new friendships.”
There were about 15 women signed up for the event, some were new to town and others frequently attended the organisation’s events, she said.
“It has been good and most people have been having long conversations, which is what we wanted to achieve.”
Manager Meggy Bartlett-McBride said it was important to hold these types of events especially as Covid-19 cases continued to increase.
“I think it is important to have face-to-face interactions and we should not lose those kinds of connections because a lot is done virtually now, but it is important to maintain this normality.”
The organisation held community gatherings three to four times a year and wanted to make it more regular.
“Our organisation is here to ensure the integration of the community and our purpose is to help people form connections.
“So if anyone wants to join our future events everyone and anyone is welcome, regardless of their ethnicity, gender or background.”
