THREE Southland Girl Guides have worked their way towards earning a Queen’s Guide Award, the highest achievement a girl guide can earn.

The achievement can take up to three years to earn and focuses on building skills such as responsibility, planning and leadership.

Five Rivers Rangers unit team leader Carla Werder said it had been years since so many girls had won the esteemed award. “The fact we have had five in a matter of months is huge.

“I’m so proud of them… I just love watching the girls grow.”

Tabetha Driver (16) and Jessica Shand (17) of Invercargill and Olivia Black (16) of Riverton will receive the award at a national presentation by the Governor General later this year.
