Eight Southland charities are better off thanks to motorists refuelling their vehicles.
Z Dee Street and Z Gladstone each donated $4000 to charities selected as part of the Good in the Hood programme, Graeme Sherlock, of Z Dee Street, said.
Fuel purchasers placed tokens in boxes supporting the charity of their choice, and the charities received the proportionate amount of money by cheque on Friday, June 23.
Z Dee Street gave Hospice Southland $2250, Koha Kai $752, Invercargill Blue Light $462 and Special Olympics Southland $536. Z Gladstone gave the Graeme Dingle Foundation $562, Bellyful Invercargill $617, Alzheimer’s Society Southland $2163 and Victim Support Southland $658.
This year an extra award was given to the charity which “most connected with the community” and the Z petrol stations. The $50 voucher went to Alzheimer’s Society Southland.
