AS part of Hearing Awareness Week (March 3-9), Hearing Southland, a branch of the Hearing Association, will host an expo on Friday, March 9, at its rooms at 126 Leet St, Invercargill, from 9am to 4pm, providing Southlanders with information about hearing loss and assistance. Service dog Alex will be the star attraction.
Hearing Southland field officer Bev Manihera said Hearing Southland provided advice and assistance to anyone in the community over the age of 16 who had difficulty as a result of hearing loss.
“About 6300 Southlanders use our service yearly.”
Dianne Alexander is one such Southlander.
“I feel more secure in the house with Alex,” she said.
“He taps me on the leg and takes me to the door, or he’ll take me to my phone when it’s ringing. There’s an ad on TV with a smoke alarm ringing in it and he comes and tells me.”
