WINDSOR North School pupil Libby Winter (7) cut off her hair to raise money for the Cancer Society Relay for Life 2018.
Libby’s hair will be given to make wigs for cancer patients with all proceeds raised from cutting her hair donated to the Cancer Society of New Zealand, Otago-Southland branch.
Libby said her new hairstyle was “great” and she intended to keep her hair short now rather than grow it again.
As of Tuesday, Libby had raised $1471 through her Everyday Hero page.
Libby’s mother Andrea said a pupil at Libby’s school, Penelope Truman, was having a birthday party next weekend and had requested her family and friends donate to Libby’s cause rather than buy her presents, so they expected the amount raised to increase further.
“Thanks so much for supporting [Libby]. We had donations from complete strangers, which is so awesome,” Libby’s father Daryll said.
Southland Cancer Society Relay for Life, Rugby Park, Saturday from 2pm, until Sunday, 10am.
