THERE will be more than new-found treasures at this Saturday’s “discovery” market in South City.
Hosted by The Pantry, its chairwoman Janette Malcolm said the Christmas-themed Village Market would have a mix of eclectic items for sale, both preloved and new.
“There will be something for everyone… more like a discovery market.”
During the past two years the Village Market, which was held monthly throughout summer, had become a popular place, she said.
“Some people come along just to socialise, some come to chat to other people and have a coffee… and sometimes, they may see something that interests them to buy.”
Having The Pantry next to the market was also handy for visitors to gather and enjoy their refreshments, especially the “fabulous coffee”, she said.
Being the festive time of the year, the markets were also timely for those who were still on the lookout for Christmas presents, she said.
“You just don’t know what may be on offer.”
Money from the hire of stalls went directly to The Pantry’s Pay-It-Forward programme, she said.
Since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown, The Pantry, South Alive’s community owned bulk grocery, specialty food store and cafe, had co-ordinated donations of fresh food boxes to various South Invercargill families in need.
These had been donated by Pantry customers buying boxes to the value of $20, $35 and $50 online.
So far, at least 271 boxes and more than $3863 had been donated, with the cash used to buy additional fresh produce from local suppliers, including The Spirit Army, Ms Malcolm said.
“New World grocery vouchers were also included, thanks to Foodstuffs fantastic help.”
