Invercargill Sunrise Rotary vice chairman of foundation fundraising Richard Kyte said about $5000 of gardening equipment had been donated, including a trailer, lawnmower and various gardening tools.
The money had come from a Rotary district grant of $2000 with the remainder being raised by Invercargill Sunrise Rotary and Next Rotary Generation (NRG) clubs, he said.
“Koha Kai fits well with Rotary’s values and what we are trying to achieve,” he said.
Koha Kai founder Janice Lee said the equipment would be used for the Koha Kai garden care programme.
The new garden care division had seven trainees, who could gain an NZQA level one horticulture qualification, and four community volunteers, she said.
“This will enable more to be done in the community – yard maintenance and looking after the elderly around Invercargill,” she said.
