AFTER clipping her long locks, a Southland girl has smashed her fundraising goal.

Nicole Brook (9), of Woodlands, had been growing her hair out for two years, with the goal to raise funds for charity by eventually cutting it.

Nicole set herself the target to raise $1000 for the the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Southland Hospital, and received support from friends and family in New Zealand and the
Netherlands.

Her mother, Hanneke van Vliet, said they were surprised at the support shown for Nicole, and they received $1100 in one week and an additional $100 soon after.

‘‘I was surprised she made so much in such a short amount of time,’’ Mrs van Vliet said.

‘‘We are really appreciative [of the donations].’’

Nicole chose to donate to the Ronald McDonald Family Room due to the charity previously supporting her mum when she had twins in the hospital for four weeks, eight years
ago, and spent a lot of time there as a day guest.

The family has donated to the charity ever year since the twins were born.
