THE announcement of the move to Alert Level 2 on Monday has meant Te Anau Spring Flower Show has had to be cancelled.

Te Anau Flower Show committee spokeswoman Judy Matthews said the Alert Level 2 rules made it too hard for the show to go ahead.

The annual event was being held in conjunction with the South Island National Daffodil Show on September 25 and 26.

“A National Daffodil Society of New Zealand show has never been cancelled before,” she said.

National Daffodil Society secretary Mike Smith said he wanted to thank the committee for the work they had put in to organising the event.

However, with next year’s event planned for Lincoln and Timaru in 2023, he was unsure when Te Anau would have the opportunity to host it again.

Mrs Matthews said the committee members were very disappointed but understood it was the correct decision to make.

“Te Anau Flower Show committee hope to share daffodils over the next few weeks with the local community.

“These daffodils would have been on display at the show.”
