ONE of the non-profit organisations that has taken part in the Southland Santa Parade since it began 17 years ago, Southland Riding for the Disabled (RDA), will this year receive the proceeds of the Westpac street appeal, held in conjunction with the parade on December 3.
This year’s parade, starting at 2pm, would feature a new main float, currently under wraps, as well as family favourites, event organiser Alice Pottinger said.
About 70 floats would take part and organisers were seeking volunteers to help with preparatory work, as well as to act as street walkers on the day, she said.
Road works in Gala St meant parade floats would line up and begin their journey in Kelvin St before moving through Invercargill’s inner city.
She said each year the organising committee selected a group or non-profit organisation as the recipient of the money collected during the appeal.
This year the RDA was chosen because the organisation had participated in the parade every year since it began and had never previously been a recipient.
Those interested in becoming a volunteer could email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone Alice Pottinger, 0272 289 693. Postponement date is Sunday, December 4.
