INVERCARGILL Middle School received the Excellence in Teaching and Learning award at the Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards last week.

Invercargill MP Sarah Dowie said the award was a testament to the school’s hard work and commitment to education innovation.

“Invercargill Middle School is a pioneer in innovative and effective teaching practices. The school is highly commended for its ground-breaking oral language programme, which has lifted communication and overall achievement for all students,” she said.

Principal Stan Tiatia said it was a big moment for the school.

“We still have a lot opportunities to grow and we want to continue building up,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in New Zealand schools.

Winners receive a financial award and a professional development opportunity.
