FOR the first time ever, a Southland team has won the Otago Southland Secondary
Interschool Teams Championship.
Southland Boys’ High School pupils Oshadha Perera (16, left), Dylan Lee (17), Atlas Kerr (16) and Kit Zoreno (15) were happy to have been the overall winners at the weekend.
They received the engraved cup yesterday, and Lee said it was a good feeling to have achieved what they had.
Having competed in the event since Year 9, this was his last year to enter.
He said the competition was a little harder than previous years.
“So that is quite fulfilling.”
While he expected they would do well, he felt the outcome was dependent on who the competition was; the event had a record number of 18 teams.
The Invercargill team, who have each been playing between five to ten years, would head to the national tournament in October.
From Dunedin, Logan Park High School’s team would also attend.
James Hargest College also entered three teams, with one of them claiming 3rd position.
